PONT-SAINT-ESPRIT A new contemporary art fair kicks off in May

A work of art by Elyn Chen.

From May 7 to 15, the first edition of the new contemporary art fair of Pont-Saint-Esprit will be held: the “Pont des arts”. This new formula will bring together the work of five artists within the Prieuré Saint-Pierre.

This new event replaces the fall show, created in 2012: ” One thing led to another, we always saw the same artists, it was difficult to expand. In this new formula we will have a more limited selection of artists but “outside the walls”“explains Christine Clerc, Culture Assistant at Spiripontaine . Hence the name “Pont des arts”, in reference to the link with other artistic horizons. “We are moving up the category so that it becomes an unmissable event in the region and even beyond.

Christine Clerc continues.

The exhibition will be open from May 7 to 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. The inauguration will take place on Friday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m., where the five artists will be present: four painters and a sculptor. We can count on Elyn Chen. She was born in Shanghai in 1983 in a traditional Chinese family, she moved to France about ten years ago, to the Luberon. She will come to exhibit her paintings in Pont, but she first became known in the field of cartography, in particular, by creating the official map of the Shanghai World Expo in 2010, published in more than 100 million copies. .

“Solid’art”, an evolutionary, participatory and supportive work

Visitors to the Priory will also be able to admire realistic paintings by Pierre Riollet, who studied at the Auguste-Renoir art school in Paris. His canvases evoke views and cityscapes inspired by American masters such as Edward Hopper. There will also be Laurence Pecquet, an artist based in Vézénobres who creates figures with plaster or even the Nîmes, Philippe Roussel, who will unveil his rather abstract series on the sea.

“The Basin” by the Nimes painter Philippe Roussel.

This contemporary art fair aims to be varied and accessible to all audiences, initiated or not. Some may even take a piece of work with them. In fact, Erika Thomas, one of the painters, will create a monumental parterre for the event, made up of 400 15×15 cm pieces of wood. This project called “Solid’art” symbolizes sharing, encounters and exchanges.

Those who wish can purchase a numbered piece of this fresco for just €5. Each missing piece will be replaced by a name, a message… All the money raised will be donated to the four Spiripontaine associations with a food bank (Red Cross, Secours Populaire, Les Logis du soleil and Far Saint-Vincent).

The municipality of Spiripontaine wants to continue putting its local artists in the spotlight but in other circumstances, for example during the European Heritage Days. Several rooms, such as the Provence de la Cazerne room, can also be used for exhibitions.
