From May 12 to 15, 2022, the city of Vierzon is preparing to offer the 1ʳᵉ edition of “Cher(e) Guyane” to the public. A festival that will highlight Guyanese artists and cuisine. Objective: to highlight the cultural riches of the French region of Amazonia.
Will Vierzon, in the center of metropolitan France, become the French capital of Guyana? “In any case, we want to be at least the showcase”testifies Océane Pivoteau, co-artistic director of Les Renards Volants, a collective of artists from the Centre-Val de Loire region who are committed to making culture accessible to all and who have embarked on the organization of this first Festival dedicated wholly to Guyana.
With this event we want to fight against the clichés that circulate here in mainland France about this French department of the Amazon and highlight all the positive things that are lived and shared in Guyana.Océane Pivoteau, co-director of Les Renards Volants
Exhibitions, shows, theater, cinema, concerts, Guyanese gastronomy… From May 12 to 15, 2022, festival goers will be able to experience and discover different aspects of Guyanese culture in this region of central France, in particular the show “Comme l’oiseau” by the Guyanese company OTEP – a show presented last year at the Avignon Festival – as well as a variety pop concert by the singer Saïna Manotte with her six musicians.

“We also want to generate exchanges between artists from here and thereOcean Pivoteau continues. With the aim of creating shows and concerts together.” The Volants Volants collective, based in Vierzon, focuses on overseas cultures. Initially, his project was to change overseas territory every year. “But we realized that Guyana was the least known territory here in France. Hence our desire to focus this festival on Guyana.”
We have been several times and we have fallen in love with this land, its people and its riches. Wealth that very little is known here and that we want to highlight.
Beyond the general public, the organizers have also scheduled workshops and events in the city’s schools.
Located in the department of Cher, south of Orleans, and northwest of the city of Bourges and its famous party, Vierzon, which is only 1 hour 35 minutes from Paris by train and 3 hours by car, rhymes with Guyana for four days. A kind of Guyanese spring…
