Rouen. Reading, theater, music… The French Language Festival is back, and it’s free

The French language festival of the National Dramatic Center of Normandy-Rouen returns for a fourth edition from April 25 to 30, 2022. It is free, by reservation. (©Arnaud Bertereau)

The French language in all its diversity and relevance throughout the world. This is what the festival of French languages, organized by the National Dramatic Center of Normandy-Rouen from Monday 25 to Saturday 30 April 2022, at Rouen and in Little Quevilly (Seine Maritime). On the program: reading, theater, music… at the Théâtre des Deux Rives, at the Théâtre de la Foudre at the #LaboVictorHugo. It is free, prior reservation.

French around the world

The proposals are all new creations, some of which will later live in other places. Each evening takes place in two parts, first with a short performance and then with another more important one. From Monday to Thursday, it happens at #LaboVictorHugo and then at the Théâtre des Deux Rives. Friday and Saturday, it will be at the Théâtre de la Foudre.

This year, the guest of honor is the young Haitian author, poet and novelist Jean D’Amérique, winner of the 2021 RFI Theater Award, with his work opera dust. His text will be dubbed on both evenings at Queville, by director Frédéric Fisbach. Also to be discovered: a stage in the next creation by the author and director Eva Doumbia, a meeting with the Cameroonian Marcelle Sandrine Bengono, texts by dramaturgy students at the École du Nord (in Lille)…

A transdisciplinary festival

“This transdisciplinary festival assesses the state of contemporary writing for the theater in French in the world”, emphasizes Ronan Chéneau, curator of the festival, permanent author at the Rouen CDN. A language spoken and written from Quebec to Cameroon, which for the French public can be obviously familiar but also surprising, depending on the differences from one country to another. »

This festival is the result of a collaboration with the Prix RFI Théâtre, whose vocation is to promote contemporary francophone drama from the south.
