Bagneres-de-Bigorre. Street art against store vacancies, but not only!

the essential
This Saturday, April 30, as part of the “street art” contest organized by the city, 4 artists will produce their works in 7 empty windows in the city center.

Fighting against the commercial vacuum but also offering a place of creation to live arts and favoring the meeting between artists and the public, such are the objectives of the “street art” competition organized by the city of Bagnères-de-Bigorre, in collaboration with the “Les 12 couleurs” association, the Tourmalet-Pic du Midi Tourist Office, Shopping Bagnères and the Dalbe shop (paintings).

“Sport and culture”

For this second edition (the first took place in 2018), on the theme of sport and culture, four artists were selected after a call that resonated throughout the great Southwest. . In fact, nine artists from the Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions responded. Four of them have therefore successfully passed the selection and if only one obtains the title of winner (with the reward of an exhibition at the tourist office in the summer of 2023), they will all be winners. In fact, his works (paintings and collages) will be exhibited for several months in the heart of the spa town, specifically in rue des Thermes. It will also be an opportunity for the candidates to discuss their art with the public during their creative work, this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. “We also want to create artistic emulation among them,” adds Colombe Sarrazin, the city’s cultural manager.

A Bagneraise in motion

Three owners of a commercial premises, which previously housed an old pharmacy, a computer room and a travel agency, have agreed to play the game and make their windows, located within a radius of 15 meters near Les Halles, available for a period of one year, but if a tenant comes, the windows will be vacated sooner.

Meanwhile, passers-by will have the pleasure of discovering the works of Maud Gambier, Ludo Rousset, Mathilde Cathelain and Bagnéraise Fanny Arnal-Anger. Professional artists who, as such, will charge per day (8 hours) up to €45/hour, to which is added the support of the team.

the children too

Along with the artists, there will also be the students of the municipal cultural center with an eighth exhibition reserved for them. Out of competition, and without remuneration of course, but with great enthusiasm, as his plastic arts teacher, Magali Fabre, tells us. Her courses at the cultural center and at her studio attract more and more young people. “It will be a collective work that will be an opportunity for children to show their talent, for the first time in public,” she invites the young woman to encourage.

Votes until May 30

The public is invited to vote for their favorite work. Voting will take place from May 2 to 30, either by means of a ballot paper that will be deposited in the ballot box set up at the Bagnères Tourist Office or online on the Facebook page or on the City Council website. The grand winner of the street art contest will be chosen 50% by these public votes and 50% by a jury made up of artists. The verdict is announced for early June.

In case of rain, the works will be postponed.
