For Pierre Boissonnat

The project had been in the Pipes (of Yesteryear) for quite some time.
And, this Saturday, April 30, 2022, will finally be the big day of the mobile book case who is going to attack gaillon (Eure) and his or her environment.
“We are going to make our first tour in the sector”, announce Denis Frérot, president of Pipes of Yesteryear, and Jessica Jehan, Gaillonnaise, initiator of the project.
“Like a fixed box of books, we meet with people to offer them the books that we have collected in recent months thanks to numerous donations. Once a month, we will cross the canton from Saint-Aubin. »
“A book cannot be thrown away”
The one who published, in 2020, her first novel, “Beyond appearances”, tells how she came up with the idea.
“I was at the recycling center and I saw people who came with books and threw them in the dumpster. My heart ached. I told myself that something had to be done. »
Denis Frérot summarizes: “A book cannot be thrown away, it must live. We want it to travel and for everyone to have access to it. »
During the book crate passage, books will be available for free.
“It is possible to come to exchange books, but it is not an obligation. People can choose a book they like. »
A library on legs
Because the objective of this “library on legs” is to open access to culture to as many people as possible.
“In some families, people cannot afford to buy books regularly. We want to give them the opportunity to rediscover the pleasure of reading. »
For many months, with the help of various volunteers, the two acolytes have collected, classified and stored around 7,500 donated books in an annex of the Saint-Aubin-sur-Gaillon town hall.
“We thank everyone for their donations. We have recovered some nuggets”, Jessica values. “Some books take us back years. It makes you nostalgic”, says Denis.
“Sometimes we go back to childhood,” Jessica continues, referring to the books in the green library.
2500 pounds in a converted van
After sorting through these books, we had to find a van to serve as a box of books.
“It was Philippe Doom, the mayor of Saint-Aubin, who kindly lent us his. Then I fitted it out by making and installing shelves for the books,” says Denis.
For the first trip, we had to select what to put on the shelves in the van.
“There will be 2,500 books on the shelf. There will be something for everyone: children’s books, classic and recent novels, politics, suspense and much more. »
One trip every month
Jessica and Denis do not intend to stop on such a good path “to please reading”. They still have at least two projects in their boxes.
In the first place, “we want to work with associations or leisure centers in the sector and organize events with them”. But also, in view of the very large mass of donated books, they are thinking of creating an associative library in Saint-Aubin-sur-Gaillon.
Before that, the duo plan to take trips around the canton of Gaillon, always leaving Saint-Aubin-sur-Gaillon once a month. “We are giving ourselves until the end of 2022 to see if it takes. »
Inauguration of the Pipes d’Antan book box, Saturday, April 30, 2022, in front of the Saint-Aubin-sur-Gaillon town hall, at 2 p.m. Continuation of the route, from 3:00 p.m.: Les Noés, Les Rotoirs, Jeufosse, Courcelles-sur-Seine town hall square, Intermarché d’Aubevoye, Place Paul-Doumer car park in Gaillon, Rue du Malassis in Saint – Aubin-sur-Gaillon and the town hall of Saint-Julien-de-la-Liègue.
