“This edition gives us the opportunity to return to the foundations of the Fête de la Musique, to emphasize the principles that governed its creation: a festive, popular and spontaneous event, which is aimed at all audiences and which aims to highlight and encourage amateur practices”, is underlined in a press release from the Ministry of Culture.

Concerts on the street, in theaters, in cafes, bars or restaurants, this year many events are organized again.

Expected: Bigflo & Oli, Kungs, Zaz, Marc Lavoine, Nolwenn Leroy, Ofenbach, Dadju, Pierre de Maere or Claudio Capeo. Everyone will celebrate the forty years of La Fête de la Musique!

Like every year, the Fête de la Musique 2022 will take place on Tuesday, June 21. A date that was not chosen at random, since it corresponds to the summer solstice, the first day of the summer season, the end of spring, but also the longest day of the year. It’s a great way to celebrate music, the arrival of good weather and start the season of summer evenings!

It was in 1981 when Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, began the creation of an event that would put music in the spotlight. He commissioned Maurice Fleuret, director of music and dance, to create this great popular event, which would be organized every year, on the day of the summer solstice, in all parts of France. The first Fête de la Musique took place on June 21, 1982: it was a success. Thousands of events are springing up across the country, bringing together music lovers and artists in one gigantic popular party.

“We needed an event that would allow us to measure the place that music occupies in individual and collective life. A spectacular movement of conscience, a spontaneous impulse to alert public opinion and perhaps also… the political class. C That is why the Ministry of Culture had the idea of organizing a Fête de la Musique in 1982. A non-directive party, which brings together all French people for whom music matters”, Maurice Fleuret underlined in 1983 on Télérama.

Also, very quickly, the Fête de la Musique, which took hold of France and the French, crossed borders: since 2017, more than 120 countries have celebrated music on the same day.
