Art furniture sold at auction in a castle in Saint-Cernin-de-Larche (Corrèze)

Among the numerous mirrors, paintings and tapestries hanging on the stone walls of the castle, Anne Gillardeau, auctioneer, finishes preparing the furniture that will be offered at auction this Sunday. It is hard to imagine that, in the end, only the noble walls and chimneys of this 15th-century building, located on the heights of Saint-Cernin-de-Larche, will probably remain.

A certain “art of living”

“The castle has been sold and we have been asked to sell the furniture. We had a family here who loved art furniture. The owner was a lady of good taste, who appreciated a certain “art of living” that corresponds to the spirit of the building. This applies to the furniture up to the cut crystal vases”, emphasizes Anne Gillardeau, in front of a Louis XV chest of drawers in cherry wood, one of the most beautiful pieces for sale. The auction will take place at the Château de Pommiers. The visit then takes us to a ceremonial buffet in exotic wood from Nandinh. The mere mention of him is an invitation to travel. “This Indochinese piece of furniture dates from the end of the 19th century and is inlaid with mother-of-pearl,” details our guide for the day.

A four-poster bed that arouses curiosity

Here, a couple of light fixtures are still attached to the wall. There, in the small living room, the patinated terracotta bust of a young oriental woman in a turban, signed by Frédérik Goldscheider, a 19th-century Viennese artist. “It’s a house that also has many framed mirrors,” we say.

Above, Anne Gillardeau pauses in the library, in front of a large “blue oven” vase, underlined with gilt. In the bedroom, a few steps away, in front of a fireplace: a four-poster bed. “It has twisted columns. As soon as we put it online on our site, we received several requests for information. It is a type of furniture that is highly sought after, ”explains the person who will hold the auction hammer on Sunday. Estimated between 200 and 300 euros, will its price skyrocket in the castle courtyard?

300 lots auctioned

Either way, you’ll have to be patient. The art of the auction is very precise. This Sunday the gardening teams will be presented for the first time. Then it will be the contents of the barns… 300 lots in all.

On the Internet, the presented furniture aroused the interest of more than 4,000 people in about ten days. “In April, an on-site sale in Chabrignac brought together more than 200 people. It is quite possible that this is the case with the Château de Pommiers”, the auctioneer expects.
