Music lovers and lovers of universal classical music will be able, starting Saturday, to rediscover the waltz of the great international symphony orchestras in Algiers, thanks to the return to the Algerian cultural scene of the International Festival of Symphonic Music of Algiers in its 12th edition. edition. .

After two years of absence imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic and the necessary restrictions during this period, the Algiers International Symphonic Music Festival invites its audience from October 15 to 20 at the Algiers Boualem-Bessaih Opera.

This edition, which foresees the participation of orchestras from 13 countries, including Algeria, welcomes Germany, one of the cradles of symphonic music, as guest of honor with the “L’Arte del mondo” orchestra, which will share the inaugural stage with the Algiers Opera Symphony Orchestra.

On stage, more than 70 musicians as well as opera singers will perform the opening recital under the joint direction of Ehrhardt Werner Karl Christoph (Germany) and Lotfi Saidi (Algeria).

Ensembles from Italy, Tunisia, Japan, France, Austria, Egypt, the Czech Republic, Syria, South Africa, Russia, Sudan and Denmark, which marks their first participation in this event, must succeed each other for six days, in varied universal music repertoires.

The festival program provides for the passage of two to three symphonic ensembles per night on the stage of the Algiers Opera.

-A particular interest for music students

For this edition, the organizers have also focused on training with a rich academic program of conferences and master classes scheduled from October 16 to 20 at the Mohamed-Fawzi National Higher Institute of Music (Insm) for numerous students from schools and institutes music regions. in 17 cities in Algeria, including Biskra, Constantine, Relizane, Laghouat and even Batna.

This program includes training for voice, violin, piano, first oboe, cello and accordion as well as a class for future conductors.

“Young students, who represent the future of our beloved country, have a prominent place in the programming of this 12th edition, which coincides with the celebrations of the sixtieth anniversary of the recovery of national sovereignty,” said Abdelkader Bouazzara, curator of the festival. and director of Insm.

In addition, three conferences are also held on “+Chahrazed+, the work of the Russian composer Rimski Korsakov, and its relationship with the Algerian musical heritage”, the “Possibility of adapting traditional music to a symphonic distribution” and “The ceremonial violin in Algiers” . scheduled at the institute.

Founded in 2009, the Algiers International Symphonic Music Festival aims to promote this music in Algeria and create a space for academic exchange as well as involving students and graduates from Algerian music training establishments.

The 12th edition of the festival that opens on Saturday is organized in collaboration, among others, with the Algiers Boualem-Bessaïh Opera, the National Office for Copyright and Related Rights (Onda), the National Office for Culture and Information (Onci) , as well as the contribution of the different diplomatic representations of the participating countries.
